Founded in 1978, with HQs in Rome and Brussels, Cittadinanzattiva has about 115,000 members operating locally through 250 assemblies of “active citizenship” throughout the national territory.
The main objectives of Cittadinanzattiva are the promotion of civic participation and the protection of citizens’ rights in Italy and in Europe. Citizens are considered an essential resource for democracy in playing an active role in society and they should have the opportunity to participate in the development of daily policies.
Cittadinanzattiva’s strategy is threefold:
- empowering individuals and organizations;
- producing civic information;
- protecting individual citizens’ rights, and promoting them.
The sectors in which Cittadinanzattiva is particularly active are health, with the Court for patients’ rights, consumer and user rights, with citizens’ defenders, education and training, with the School for active citizenship, justice, with Justice for Citizens’ Rights, European citizenship, with active citizenship network and corporate social responsibility.
